Something not really vet-related – for travellers

September 12, 2008

If you travel a bit, say to conferences, you may every now and then find yourself looking for information on your destination. As far as cities in North America, Australia + New Zealand and Europe are concerned there is a nice database you can either access online or download for free and use offline. It contains 200 cities with various types of information including maps.  There are also packages  for the continents or you can download just individual cities. The name of the site is

Schmap – Map Guides and Map Widgets

What a name! In German it (Schmap) might be onomatopoeically used to emulate a person munching heavily away on something.

New Browsers

September 3, 2008

The Internet Explorer is now available here in its betaversion 8.1.  I started to download it and then stopped in the middle of the process, as it seemed to go deep into my PC. The Spybot-security check also made its complaints. Also there is some co-operation expected  for which I do not have he time at present. So I will just wait for the alphaversion.

Chrome by Google, in its betaversion available here,  on the other hand is not half as clumsy as the Internet Explorer and immediately imports all the bookmarks from Firefox . First tests I did left me with a good impression. it is particularly handy to be able to search with in the navigation bar.

For further information by Google Chrome itself see here.
