EVLG-Meeting Helsinki

June 25, 2008

Frame: SIG-Meeting

Venue: Finlandia Hall

Date: 25. 06. 08

Time : 10:00 -12:00

Attendees: Trenton Boyd, Fiona Brown, Michael Eklund, Roos Goverde, Raisa Iivonen, Teodora Oker-Blom, Doris Reinitzer, Friedhelm Rump, Kirsti Strengehagen, Sinikka Suckcharoen, Robert Taylor, Marie Teissier

1. The meeting opened with everyone introducing themselves.

2. The History of the EVLG was outlined by Trenton Boyd and others. Half of the attendees were founding members. Perspectives were being discussed as to how the group could be made more attractive to others.

3. Where are we going from here? Should we hold SIG parallel-sessions in the future? This was agreed upon, but with a more professional reference. Also the publication of an online newsletter was being discussed. This was rejected in favor of this blog and further contributions to the EAHIL-Newsletter. Our group is the forum and provides contacts not to be underestimated. Trenton Boyd and Vicki Croft have started an international dirctory of veterinary libraries, also Alexandre Kossovoi with some input by Friedhelm Rump has set up a mashup using Google Maps with veterinary library data for Europe. Robert Taylor encourages a veterinary focus group to collaborate with CABI. This is generally welcomed.

4. Future Conferences; it was discussed whether or not to have the AHIS-UK-Meeting in Dublin a day before the EAHIL-workshop there? that was agreed upon. Negotiations with EAHIL should be made.

5. Roos Goverde gave a presentation entitled ” From a traditional library to an interactive learning environment”.

6. Friedhelm Rump gave a short overview of new tools and searching tips.
